“POP-EYED”

New Years, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Halloween and now St Valentine's Day.
What is it with all these “days” huh? I’m really starting to think that the only thing they have in common is that they are all commercially based days with a lot of emotion put into them. I bet your thinking that the only reason I’m picking on Valentine’s Day is because I spend it alone. Well guess what, besides the fact that I do, I’ve found a great way to spend that day.
Nobody seems to remember the millions of people who aren’t couples that day and what do they have to do to make a day for themselves as well?.. February 20th, Singles Day :). I hate how everybody makes such a big deal over it, people go shopping, days, sometimes weeks before to buy that “special” gift, but their gift is no more unique or different than the millions of other gifts bought and given that day. If you want it to be special, do something different. Okay, so the red rose has become a classic! But heeey! There are better things to do with your money and time. And why should there be only one day to remember your loved one? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want it to last 365 days, but I think that people should always remember and try to make an effort for their loved ones, correct me if I’m wrong. You can’t, can ya :).
Anyway, as I was saying, I’ve found a great way to spend Valentine’s Day as a single, go out with all your single friends! It might sound simple but it’s definitely the best thing to be doing! Make a mixed single group with guys and girls together but make sure there are no couples (you know, so they feel left out hehe). Go to dinner together and just enjoy the act of being with each other. If Valentine’s is about being with somebody you love and care for, it doesn’t have to only mean your girlfriend / boyfriend right... hehe... it could be your friends as well. If you don’t want to feel left out, here are some fun and different things to do that day, 1. Draw each others name out of a bag and buy a gift for that person, it’s nice getting a gift that day - hey why should you feel left out.. 2. You know how you’re going to be going out with your single friends weelll, why doesn’t everybody else bring a single friend with them - like a blind date of some sort, at least you will get to meet new people - new “single” people and it could be a good laugh.
Whatever you decide to do that day, don’t forget that the important thing is not having a girlfriend / boyfriend as it is commercialized, but it is to remember the ones that you love and to spend that day with them. A great excuse for being spoiled and to spoil others :) Happy Valentines Day!
