While its official matches are about to kick off, the Bilkent volleyball team continues to hold practice matches. The last match took place last Wednesday at METU’s Sports Hall between Bilkent and the METU men's volleyball teams. The Bilkent side started the game with rather unsuccessful serves; however, right before the second technical time-out, Bilkent compensated for its earlier mistakes with excellent serves. Unfortunately, their hard work did not pay off and we lost the first set by 2 points (25-23).
The second set was really a thrilling one as the sides did not let each other gain 2 consecutive points. However this vicious circle was broken by repeated effective serves and Bilkent made it 1-1 by winning the second set 19-25. All throughout the third set, METU had the lead with the exception of the final points! So Bilkent made it 2-1 as they set their defense better than their opponent did (23-25). In the last set, substitutes were on the court for both sides and the excitement continued until the last point. However we were unlucky, and lost the set 25-23. Thus the game ended with a draw at two sets each! I can hear you saying, “Are you kidding? A draw in a volleyball match?”! However don't forget that this is a practice match! What really won in the end was friendship between the two teams.
