An Invitation from the Friends of UNICEF

The Friends of the UNICEF Central Committee is one of the constituent bodies of the Turkish National Committee for UNICEF. It is a volunteer group with several members from the Bilkent community. They collect donations from organizations and individuals, and organize various fundraising activities.
The Turkish National Committee for UNICEF aims to draw the attention of state and private organizations and of the general public to the needs of children in Turkey and the world, and to raise funds to support UNICEF’s programs on health care, education and protection for children in more than 160 countries.
In June 2003, the Turkish Ministry of National Education and UNICEF launched the Advocacy Campaign for Girls Education: “Haydi Kızlar Okula”. The campaign aims to achieve gender equality in primary school enrollment by the end of 2005, through the provision of quality basic education for all girls in 50 provinces where the schooling rate of girls is lowest.
To support UNICEF projects in general, and this campaign in particular, “The Friends of UNICEF Central Committee” has opened a temporary shop at Main Campus Flat 20/2 (ext. 3130) where UNICEF cards and gifts will be sold on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 11:30 and 4 p.m. You can see the latest UNICEF catalogue for the new year at http://cayfer.bilkent.edu.tr/unicef
The Friends of UNICEF Central Committee invites you to join them and take part in their activities. For more information you can contact Mrs. Nilgün Baray at ext. 1688 or send an e-mail to gonulluler@lists.bilkent.edu.tr or check the web page at www.unicefturk.org and the e-shop at http://shop.tr.net.tr/unicef
