“Surviving the Internet”

Turkey was first connected to the Internet 12 years ago. In recent years, significant improvements in technology and availability, coupled with increased awareness of the opportunities the Internet offers, have resulted in a rapid expansion of use. Today, the Internet is transforming the way state organizations, NGOs, businesses and private citizens work and interact. Unfortunately, this new-found convenience is under serious attack. Threats from viruses, phishing, spam, identity theft and the like are increasingly commonplace. Internet users need to be aware of the risks and know how to secure their machines against such dangers. As part of “Internet Haftasý,” Can Uđur Ayfer will examine the contemporary threats and offer guidelines you can follow to help ensure your survival on the Internet. The talk will be at 5:40 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20 in room B205 (BCC building). Don't miss it! Organized by INSITES http://goto.bilkent.edu.tr/insites
