Letter to the Editor

Dear Bilkent News,
From time to time, I read in your newsletter about how good it is for us to recycle...but the recycling bins have often been full to bursting and are now simply unavailable.
Two years ago, the bins near Cafe In and Coffee Break disappeared. This month, the recycling bin most convenient to us (near the Uptown Bistro) disappeared, as well as the two bins near the lojman tennis courts and the housing office. The only one left on main campus is near the bookstore...and I must admit, I'm too lazy to lug my recycling from the Bistro to the bookstore.
I've written about this before, and I've never received a solution or even a reply...just more disappearing bins. Please give us the means to recycle more easily.

Sincerely,
Erin Maloney, SAL

Response to the Letter:
Dear Ms. Maloney,
Many thanks for bringing this issue to our attention. We appreciate your interest in protecting the environment through use of the recycling bins on campus. As you will have noticed, the bins are now back. The university cooperates with a civic organization, ANÇEVA, in providing recycling services. Due to problems with the way the recycling bins were being used, they were temporarily removed.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that the recycling bins are for RECYCLABLE ITEMS ONLY. Other garbage or trash should never be placed in the bins. Also, recyclable items should be sorted and deposited into the appropriate sections of the containers. By using the bins properly, we can all work together to protect our environment!
