Painter Birsen Gültekin, a faculty member from the Hacettepe University
Department of Fine Arts, will be giving a lecture on her own paintings
on May 12 at 10 a.m. in Room FFB-22 of the Interior
Architecture Building. (The lecture will be in Turkish.)
Gültekin's figurative works, with their bright colors and depictions of
animals and toys, are symbolic reminders of childhood and lost
innocence. While the paintings appear at first glance to be humorous and
cheerful, the ironic juxtaposition of darker objects, colors and images
creates a feeling of tension. The painter's original works can be seen
at the Museum of Painting and Sculpture.
