GÖREP Volunteers Look Back and Ahead

Every Saturday, approximately 15 university student volunteers help visually impaired students at the Namık Kemal İlköðretim Okulu prepare for the university entrance exam. Most of the volunteers are from Bilkent; some come from other universities such as Hacettepe and Ankara. This activity is organized by the Görme Engellileri Eğitimi Projesi (GÖREP) of Toplumsal Duyarlılık Projeleri (TDP).
On May 7, project volunteers and beneficiaries met at the Uygar Association for the Visually Impaired to discuss the project. GÖREP's coordinator, Kerem Can Yılmaz (IE/II), announced that a new "moderator system" would be used next fall. The meeting also included feedback from the visually impaired students, who thanked GÖREP volunteers and expressed their wishes for additional lessons, more social activities and field trips. GÖREP members are now working on a new project, in which they read books to make recorded "talking books."
All Bilkenters are welcome to participate in GÖREP's activities in the coming year. For further information, you can get in touch with the coordinator, Kerem Can Yılmaz, at (533) 491-8685, or email: kcyilmaz@ug.bilkent.edu.tr, gorep@yahoogroups.com.au
