The first Bilkent Fitness Challenge ended with an award ceremony on May 1. Of the 153 challenge participants, 53 succeeded in collecting at least 120 points by exercising regularly during the period between March 14 and May 1. These "winners" received medals and surprise gifts from the Sports Committee. The 2005 Spring Fitness Challenge, held at the Student Dormitories Sports Hall, was open to all students and academic staff. The 6-week event was intended to encourage students to keep fit and teach them to exercise in the correct way.

One of the winning participants, Zeynep Oluz (ETS/I), told Bilkent News, "It was a long and hard journey. From the beginning, I wanted to get at least 120 points. I came here and exercised for an hour five days a week, every week, even if I was sick and had to get out of bed. However, it was a really fun, pleasant activity for me. It convinced me to do sports regularly and helped me to gain discipline."

Another participant, Mehmet Orhan (ACC/IV), added, "It was a really nice experience. At the beginning, it really pushed me hard, but then I got used to it and learned to do the movements correctly. Sports helped me relax and get away from the stresses of school life. I've started to look at exercise as part of my daily routine, and will continue to work out after the Fitness Challenge."

Bilkenters are now looking forward to the next Fitness Challenge to help them get in shape and stay in shape!
