"As a game, badminton
involves speed of eye, foot, hand and thought in an almost unique combination."
Badminton,
which some call the "fastest racket sport on earth," is played by both men and
women and involves equal amounts of skill and physical commitment.
It gives men and women equal opportunity to compete on the same court like in a few other
sports such as tennis, table tennis, squash and horseback riding.
There are currently more than 40 university badminton teams in Turkey. "Bilkent
University has the best court in Turkey. It was constructed to meet International
Badminton Federation Standards," says Yrfan Yyldyrym, founder of the Turkish
Badminton Federation (1991), who has been training the university badminton team since
1991.
An upcoming badminton event at Bilkent is "The Rector's Cup Badminton
Tournament," which will be held on Saturday, November
27 at the Main Sports Hall. Those who want to register for the tournament
can contact the Physical Education and Sports Center at ext. 1993
or 1325.
