Thirty-six students from
the Graduate School of Education left Turkey early on January 12 for
Ames, Iowa. They are shown in the photo at Esenbođa airport with family
and friends.
This is the fifth group
of students to benefit from a grant made available by the U.S.
Department of State to Bilkent's trainee teachers. In Ames, they will
teach in high schools for six weeks.
Cultural aspects of
their visit will include a weekend trip to Chicago, Martin Luther King
memorial celebrations and homestays with American families. Group
members will also give presentations about Turkey to school classes and
other audiences, as well as organize a one-day "Turkish Experience"
including food, dancing and other Turkish delights for the whole
community.
The visit ends in mid-March
with a 5-day stay in Washington, D.C., where the group will call at the
State Department.
