THE VOICE

OSCAR "MOSTS"

For the 78th time, the Oscar statuettes will be finding their places in celebrities' homes, or wherever they are destined to go. For each winner, this little statue is a reward for work well done.

At that very special moment when the winner is announced, the people who have been nominated are fully prepared to come to the podium and receive their Academy Award. However, they have also emotionally prepared
themselves to either win or lose. And, whatever the outcome, they have all prepared themselves to look their best on Oscar night. This event is not only about talent and artistry, but also about being noticed and talked about after the ceremony is over.

Over the years, some people have been nominated not just for one or two, but for a large number of Academy Awards. And, in some years, a single film has won several Oscars. Let's take a look at some Oscar "mosts":

Meryl Streep leads in the category of the most nominations received by an actress. She has been nominated 14 times and has received 2 Oscars. Among the men, the leader is Jack Nicholson, with 12 nominations and 3 Oscars.

The maximum number of Oscars won by a movie is 11. Three films share this honor: "Ben-Hur" (1959), "Titanic" (1997) and "The Lord of The Rings" (2003).

As for screenwriters, four men have won 3 Oscars each: Bill Wilder, Charles Brackett, Francis Ford Coppola and Paddy Chayefsky.

John Ford is the only person to have received 4 Oscars as best director. Frank Capra and William Wyler follow him with 3 awards.

What about the "big five" awards? These are: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Screenplay. There are only three movies that have won all five: "It Happened One Night" (1934), "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest" (1975) and "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991).

So, coming back to the present, will we be able to see another "most" this year? "Brokeback Mountain," which has the largest number of nominations this year, is up for an Oscar in 8 categories. But even if it wins all these awards, it won't make the list of the films with the most Oscars. However, I do think that "Brokeback Mountain" will receive the most awards of any film this year.

By the time you read this column, the recipients will have received
their statuettes. I hope you enjoyed the Oscars and made lucky guesses
about who the winners would be. Have a nice week.
