On the Courts at Bilkent

Bilkent University has many opportunities for those who want to develop their skills as tennis players. The Physical Education and Sports Center offers both credit and non-credit tennis courses at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

The Bilkent News sent a reporter to observe a class session of the credit beginner's level tennis course last week. It was clear that the new tennis players had already made great progress, and were also enjoying themselves. "I strongly recommend that those who are interested in racket sports take this course," said Yunus Emre (EE/IV), one of the students in the class. "We've learned forehand, backhand and service in three weeks, and we're now practicing these basics. The course also gives you an opportunity to meet new people from different departments, and is a lot of fun."

"The main aim of the courses is to instill in students the benefits of a healthy lifestyle through sports. We would like to invite everybody to play tennis. Students should enroll in at least one accredited sports course during their university years, and tennis is a good choice," added Dr. Alper Uğraş, Tennis Program Director at the Bilkent Sports Center.

Dr. Uğraş also noted that both the women's and men's tennis teams are preparing for the Inter-University Tennis Tournament to be held next month.
