He is an expert on
classical Ottoman economic, social and institutional history. Prof.
İnalcık has published more than 200 scholarly articles and numerous
books.
This year, the
Presidential Award was granted to four individuals considered masters in
their respective fields--Prof. İnalcık, author Oktay Akbal, painter
Ferruh Başağa and photographer Ara Güler--as well as to the Sevda-Cenap
And Music Foundation. President Ahmet Necdet Sezer named the recipients
of the award based on the recommendations of an evaluation committee
headed by Presidential Secretary-General Kemal Nehrozoğlu and composed
of Yıldız Kenter, Professor Talat Halman, Professor Emre Kongar, Doğan
Hızlan, Rengim Gökmen and Bülent Serim. An awards ceremony will be held
at the Çankaya Presidential Residence on November 11, 2005.
