A Visit to the Gazi Çocuk Yurdu

The Yetiştirme Yurtları Projesi (YYP) is one of the many Toplumsal Duyarlılık Projeleri (TDP) projects providing Bilkent students with an opportunity to contribute to society. This particular project gives children of the Yetiştirme Yurtları (Children's Homes) the affection and guidance that they need to avoid a possibly wasted life on the streets, or worse. With this goal in mind, a large number of volunteers met on Sunday, October 30, for a day-long visit to the children in the Gazi Çocuk Yurdu.

Some of the volunteers were taking part in such a project for the first time, while others were regular participants. All of them shared the same determination to make this an enjoyable occasion for the children.

Throughout the visit, everyone had a good time talking and playing together. The fun included a big football match that attracted a large number of players, with many "lady footballers" among them.

After a tiring but happy day, during which the children had not left them for a moment, the YYP group took their leave. One child was so reluctant to see the visitors go that he ran after the bus, waving and shouting goodbye.

If you would like to receive information on YYP’'s future plans and learn how you can participate in the group's activities, you can email dursun@ug.bilkent.edu.tr or funday@ug.bilkent.edu.tr.
