Over the weekend the Bilkent
Judges played their second game of the season, against the Başkent Knights. The game
lasted nearly 4 hours with a final score of 22 to 0 with victory going to the Başkent
Knights.
The first half of the game, the Judges were unable to move the ball down the field because
of several penalty calls which kept the team from moving within scoring position. The
Judges had a number of good drives toward the goal during the second half. Though the
Judges performed better in the second half, they were unable to execute a scoring drive
because of key mistakes at critical points in the game. Both teams played equally well,
but the Judges had problems with their passing with a number of turnovers due to
interceptions and fumbles which allowed the Knights to score 3 touchdowns and a field
goal. The Knights scored another touchdown that was lost due to a penalty.
The team was enthusiastic throughout the game, which was a good thing considering the
number of people that turned up to watch the game. Most of the spectators consisted of
family members, girlfriends and classmates who did not actually know very much about
American Football so they only cheered when they thought something exciting might be
happening. However, the people interested in the game could not follow what was going on
since the players on the sidelines blocked our view and there was no scoreboard. If these
minor problems were fixed, more people would show up at games and cheer the Judges on.
We might have lost the game, but the Judges' performance was impressive and spirits were
high the whole time. Even the coach for the Başkent Knights, Cameron Dadger, expressed
his admiration for the Judges quarterback (#4) and said that he admired how he never gave
up and kept playing a good game to the very end. The whole team showed the same
determination and motivation, and we look forward to watching the next game! Come out and
support the Judges when they play the METU Falcons on December 3, at
METU.
