 Bilkent
University Nanotechnology Research Center Director Prof. Ekmel Özbay has recently been
appointed as an Editor for a nanotechnology journal: Photonics and Nanostructures -
Fundamentals and Applications.
Photonics and Nanostructures - Fundamentals and Applications establishes a dedicated
channel for physicists, material scientists, chemists, engineers and computer scientists
who are interested in nanotechnology with a special emphasis on nanophotonics.
The journal helps shed light on the latest developments in this growing field of
nanotechnology that will see the emergence of faster telecommunications and ultimately
computers that use light instead of electrons to connect components. The journal mainly
features original research in experimentation, theory and applications.
Prof. Özbay and his fellow team members won their 2005 Descartes Science Award in the
area of nanophotonics for creating and developing a new class of artificial metamaterials
that are able to overturn various familiar properties of light.
