John J. Grabowski, Krieger-Mueller Associate Professor of Applied History at
Case Western Reserve University and Director of Research at the Western Reserve Historical
Society is going to offer an online course "Comparative Perspectives on Museum and
Archives History and Practice (HISTORY 479/546)" at Bilkent this spring, which will
be taught from and offered simultaneously at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland,
Ohio.
The History 479/546 class will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 5 to 6:15 p.m.
During the course both undergraduate and graduate students will have the chance to compare
the history of, and latest issues about museums and archives in Turkey with those in the
United States. The course will consist of live lectures, readings, and a course project.
That course project will link each Bilkent student with a Case Western student in the
comparative examination of a museum or archive in Turkey with one in Cleveland. Students
will compare their projects both through the live classroom link and though Internet links
with their partner at Case Western. Therefore, as well as an academic bond, this course
will build friendship and a cultural exchange between the students at Bilkent and Case
Western.
Moreover, if sufficient grant funding is secured, the course will involve exchange visits.
Bilkent students will go to Cleveland over their spring break and the Case Western
students will come to Bilkent over their own, so that both will have the opportunity to
explore the museums and archives on site.
