Two members of the Faculty of Science have been inducted into the Turkish Academy of
Sciences (TÜBA). In December 2006 TÜBA announced that Associate Professors Ömer Dağ
and Oğuz Gülseren of the faculty of Science, were elected as Associate members.
Dr. Oğuz Gülseren, from the Department of Physics, received his Ph.D. from Bilkent
University in 1992, and went on to work at various prestigious research institutions in
Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States before joining the Physics Department at
Bilkent in 2002. Dr. Gülseren received the TÜBİTAK/TWAS Young Scientist Award in 2003
and the Science award of Istanbul University in 2002. His area of interest is nanoscience
and material properties in condensed matter Physics.
Dr. Ömer Dağ, from the Department of Chemistry, received his Ph.D from Middle East
Technical University in 1994. Dr. Dağ was awarded a TÜBİTAK (Turkish Scientific and
Research Council) Ph.D. scholarship in 1991, a certificate of successful microgravity
studies by the Canadian Space Agency in 1997, a TÜBİTAK Encouragement Award in 2001 and
a TÜBA Young Investigator Science Fellowship in 2002. His area of research interest
focuses on the synthesis and characterization of mesostructured and nanostructured
materials (metals, metal oxides, metal sulfides, and metal selenides) and liquid
crystalline systems.
