The smell in the Speed Café has always annoyed the students. The smell is most likely from the oil they use to cook. But it does have advantages.

First of all it makes it easy for people to detect where you were because of this specific, easily detectable smell. Second, if you are smoking secretly, just going in to the building for 2 seconds covers the smoking smell. Third, if you want to hold a seat for a friend and some of your friends do not like this, putting your "Speed perfumed" coat over the seat keeps people away. So, as you can see, although some students complain about this smell, it is actually very beneficial!
