From Interviews to Job Offers: Two Students Share Their Experience

Bilkent Students, Kübra Arslan (ECON/IV) and Murat Büyümez (IE/IV) will work in the department of Operations, Finance and Business Management at the London Office of JP Morgan. Following is a short interview with Arslan and Büyümez.

How were you informed about applying for a job?
We were informed by KAYİYEM and emails from the university that JP Morgan was coming to our university for a meeting in November of 2006. After the meeting on campus, we applied to JP Morgan via the Internet for jobs offered at the end of the November.

What steps did you go through leading up to the offer of a position?
After applying online via the Internet, we passed the first step and the company sent us essay questions. After the essay questions, we took two more tests, one numerical and one verbal. Passing those two tests advanced us to the interview stage. Throughout Turkey, only 52 students had the chance to be interviewed by the company. At the interview, JP Morgan tested our leadership abilities; our ability to do group work, our social ability and they asked why we had applied for the job. At the end of the interview, we also completed a small case study. Several more interviews followed and we recently learned that we were among those candidates qualified to work at JP Morgan.

What are the benefits of being a Bilkent student when you applied for this particular job?
The most important thing is that the company did not want an English test from us because they believe in the excellent English education we receive at Bilkent. During our education at Bilkent, we gained problem solving skills, presentation techniques and analytical thinking which placed us ahead of the other students in the job application process.
