The new academic year has started again or maybe you have just entered the
university this year. Homework, exams, projects, etc… Do you sometimes find yourself
bored with these issues or need a distraction? Do you want to go to interesting places? Do
you want to see more stars in the sky? One of the most active clubs at Bilkent, D.O.S.T.
(Doğa Sporları Topluluğu) welcomes new members; you can join and take training courses
to prepare for many adventures.
DOST was established in 1989. Through the years many good climbers have begun their
outdoor sports life in this club including Tunç Fındık (ELIT '93) and Nasuh Mahruki
(MAN '92), the first Turks who climbed Mt. Everest and founders of the AKUT. Every
Tuesday, the club offers training courses for new members in trekking, camping, mountain
climbing and rock climbing. On weekends or holidays, the club organizes activities like
trekking and camping to apply and strengthen the skills learned in the courses. Last year,
members of our club climbed the Uludağ, Bolkarlar, Aladağlar, Erciyes and Kaçkar
Mountains. From August 1st to the 4th, members of our club also climbed the biggest
mountain in Turkey: Ağrı Mountain (5137m).
If you're interested in learning about mountaineering and other sports, seeing different
regions and cultures, and meeting the challenges of nature, come to the first meeting on Tuesday,
September 26 in Room BZ-01 at 5:45 p.m.
