Stone of Bilkent's International Relations Department has just published a new book, World
War One, A Short History. Stone is a Professor of Modern History and Director of the
Center for Russian Studies. He was on leave at Koç University and is returning to his
position at Bilkent. World War One is a short history (140 pages) of the disaster from
which everything else in the twentieth century stemmed and is brilliantly written with wit
that is both opinionated and insightful. His other books include The Eastern Front
1914-1917, which won the Wolfson Prize, and Europe Transformed.
