Bilkent Symphony Orchestra Opens a New Season

In addition, around May and June, the Fonoforum magazine, a very significant music magazine of German speaking countries, will publish a Saygun appendix that will include information about Saygun's life, works and a CD composed of BSO recordings of Saygun's works. Işın Metin said that the publisher of Saygun's works PEER Musik has done a great job by publishing Saygun's compositions worldwide as this has lead to international exposure for Ahmet Adnan Saygun.

Işın Metin emphasized that many great artists have been invited to perform with the BSO this season, such as pianist and conductor Vladimir Ashkenazy in May.
Another important conductor, Antoni Wit, will be performing with İdil Biret on the 4th of November and will also record a CD with the BSO for ALPHA. Another recording planned for the summer will be with Maestro Tabakov and Jean-Philippe Collard. This is especially important since the first EMI recording of the BSO with our Music Director was done in collaboration with this great artist. Upcoming CD releases of the BSO include performances by Emil Tabakov, Jean-Philippe Collard, Philippe Bernold, Patrick Gallois (by Naxos - Tabakov Concerti), Howard Griffiths, Gülsin Onay, Mirjam Tchopp, Tim Hugh (2 CD's by CPO - Saygun Concerti ), Emil Tabakov, Alan Paris, İdil Biret (4 CD's by Alpha).

Metin informed Bilkent News that Fenerbahçe has recently made a request from Fazıl Say to compose a Fenerbahçe Symphony for the 100th anniversary of Fenerbahçe's establishment. The BSO plans to perform this symphony both in İstanbul and Ankara. Other plans for the BSO include giving five special concerts throughout the year for students taking Turkish courses at Bilkent University who will hear lectures on arts and classical music during their Turkish classes. Finally, Metin closed: "All Bilkent faculty, staff and students are welcome to our concerts at the Bilkent Concert Hall. Bilkenters should come and join the select Ankara audience to listen and enjoy."
