Le Piment Rouge Restaurant Awaits You

I was very surprised when someone told me there was a restaurant on our campus that served international cuisine in a fine dining style. They went on to explain that it was a practice restaurant for second year Tourism students. I was interested, but I also wondered why hadn't I heard of this place before? Did that mean this was a bad place? I had my doubts, but I decided to give it a try because I needed a change from the usual fast food I eat.

Walking into the restaurant, I was instantly reminded of the fancy family restaurants I go to with my parents. However, the atmosphere here was much warmer thanks to the smiling and eager student waitresses. It was also much quieter than the café's we usually go to on campus so my friend and I were able to enjoy a delicious meal with friendly service while having a conversation.

After the meal, I talked to the instructor (Ali Ünal) in charge to learn more about the restaurant. The restaurant first opened their doors to the public in 1991 and they currently have two chef's working in the kitchen; one of them prepares international dishes while the other prepares Asian cuisine. The restaurant's primary goal is to teach students through first hand experience, how restaurants are operated.

I also talked to the student waitresses, and they all agreed that this was a wonderful place because it was much different from their normal classes and they all had fun. "People think you don't learn very much from being a waitress, but we're actually learning things that we will use in real life," said Melis Kaymas (THS/II). She added with a laugh, "Be nice to waiters!" Her classmates laughed along and Ýrem Yaman (THM/II) added "Being a waitress seems so easy when you're looking at it from the outside, but the small details make it very hard. We never knew that before."

If you would like to taste different kinds of meals by paying only 10 YTL, do not miss the menu printed each week in the Bilkent News. The Le Piment Rouge staff are looking forward to serving you!
