Sadi Çalık Exhibition Opens

Bilkent University is hosting an exhibition featuring the work of Şadi Çalık, one of Turkey's most prestigious sculptors at the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture Exhibition Hall. The exhibit runs from October 9th to November 9th, 2006 and is open between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Şadi Çalık is one of the leading representatives of Turkish Modern Sculpture. Born in 1917, Çalık has created many of the outstanding Turkish sculptures of today. He studied at the sculpture department of the State Fine Arts Academy in İstanbul. From his death, in 1979, until today, most of his important figures were kept and protected by his wife Müfide Çalık. Among his most famous works are the Lying Woman (in İzmir), reliefs of Anıtkabir (Atatürk's Mausoleum), busts of Cevat Şakir Karaağaç in Bodrum and busts and statues of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk all around Turkey. When we look at the pieces on display at the Bilkent Exhibition Hall, "Virus Intellectual" (Virüs Entellektüel) and "Abstract Sculpture" (Soyut Heykel) are two of the most interesting pieces. "Abstract Sculpture" is made of stainless steel and it absolutely gives you the feeling of living in another time and world! As the works of art of this skillful sculptor are viewed in detail, it can be seen that he pays more attention to simplicity, volatility and slightness in the works presented at the Bilkent University Exhibition Hall.

Everybody is invited to discover the beauty and mystery of sculpture. Have a nice week full of art, which brings beauty, creativity and sincerity to your life!
