PROLOGUE TO MY PERSPECTIVE

Prologue to My Perspective

Let Pluto be Turkish
Being a child is easy, because a child's brain does not accept anything as impossible. I used to think that everything was easy to do. I wish my brain would still think that everything is easy to do; there are no obstacles. I am referring to a new fad: DTO. DTO, short for Dünya Türk Olsun, means "let the world be Turkish." Let the world become one, under one flag, with one president, and let the capital be Turkey. I do not know how this idea came about, but as I read in the newspapers http://www.milliyet.com.tr/2005/08/21/ cumartesi/yaztuba.html  it was first seen in İzmir on the street walls, and then was seen in İstanbul and Ankara. It makes you think for a while and then laugh!

While the minorities are trying to be independent and form separate countries, some people who are probably the nationalists, want to make the whole world become one country, which is Turkish! Including Russia, America, Kenya, China and many other countries and many other people. Under this idea, all cultures will be gathered under the same flag: the Turkish flag. First of all, globalization makes the whole world become a village - we cannot stop this. But the ethnic cultures keep their origins. If there are “China Towns” are all over the world, there are still cultures that are surviving against globalization. Globalization is good in a way, because everyone knows everything about each other, instantaneously. But countries and boarders are good too, in order to provide a land for people who have the same cultural values, laws and background. Different languages, clothes, cultural gestures - all of them are different colors. There are thousands of worlds in one world.

But some people, childishly want to destroy it and make the whole world Turkish. It is, of course, a dream. The more people united into one country, the more problems created by minorities. And I cannot imagine Russia and America and many other countries in Turkey. It sounds silly. There are some advantages, of course. It would be easy to travel all around the world without a passport or visa. But when everywhere is Turkey and similar, it would no longer be interesting to travel.

I am still unclear what the DTO's goals really are. But it is fun to imagine the whole world speaking Turkish; attending Turkish language classes. Imagine Bush speaking Turkish! But there would be no need for Bush because everywhere would be Turkey and there would be no president of the U.S. because there would be no U.S. Bush would just drink tea in a Turkish coffee shop.

This is a nationalist idea and may not be worth mentioning but it put a smile on my face when I first heard about it. I do not care about making the world Turkish - let's discover other planets. The world isn't a good place to live anymore. We are going to destroy all the resources and natural beauties.

How about Pluto? Pluto used to be a planet but is not so popular now that its planet status has been called into question. We can create a new world there, which could be called Turkey. Let Pluto be Turkish.
