The
Bilkent University Board of Trustees met on December 17 at which they approved the
proposal for the new Master of Arts Program in Law and Economics in the Faculty of Law.
The program is primarily structured for business professionals and offers a unique set of
courses with respect to the combination of two disciplines, namely law and economics.
The interaction between law and economics has gained significant importance.
A need has emerged for well-equipped lawyers in the field of market economy, who have
sufficient knowledge regarding the economic impact of legal rules and the economic
features of different legal systems. In order to meet this demand, it is crucial that
lawyers are trained both in law and in economics.
Thus, the Bilkent University Faculty of Law is planning to offer a postgraduate program in
"Economic Law" to enhance lawyers' awareness and knowledge of Competition and
Economic Regulation Law.
The Board also reviewed the income and expenditures for the 2007 fiscal year and concluded
that they were in line with the budget approved at the previous board meeting.
The Board of Trustees also took this opportunity to consider and agree upon the budget for
2008. As part of the approved budget for 2008, the board has decided to keep the tuition
fees denominated in YTL unchanged, with US$ denominated fees going up by 5%.
