Prof. Cevdet Aykanat, a faculty member in the Computer Engineering
Department, has been named a recipient of the 2007 Science Award bestowed by the METU
Parlar Foundation in honor of the late METU professor, Mustafa Parlar. Every year the
foundation recognizes the achievements of scientists and scholars from a variety of fields
for their exceptional research productivity.
Professor Aykanat earned his BS and MS degrees in electrical and computer engineering from
the Middle East Technical University, and received his PhD from Ohio State University,
where he was a Fulbright scholar. He worked as a research associate at the Intel
Supercomputer Systems Division in Beaverton, Oregon. Since 1989, he has been affiliated
with the Department of Computer Engineering here at Bilkent. His research interests
include parallel computing and its combinatorial aspects, parallel computer graphics
applications, parallel data mining, hypergraph partitioning, load balancing,
high-performance information retrieval and GIS systems, and grid computing. He was
recently appointed as a member of the IFIP Working Group 10.3 (Concurrent Systems) and the
EU-INTAS Council of Scientists.
The 1995 TÜBİTAK Young Investigator award winner received his latest prize at a
