Software engineering -a relatively new branch of computer engineering- involves the application of a systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approach to the development, operation, and maintenance of software. Studies in software engineering have led to increasingly powerful and sophisticated tools and techniques, as well as new processes and methodologies. As the complexity of software projects continues to grow, so does the need for greater development efficiency and reliability.
The National Software Engineering symposium series has been organized every two years since 2003. The third National Software Engineering Symposium, UYMS'07, organized jointly by the Computer Engineering Department of Bilkent University and the Chamber of Electrical Engineers Ankara Branch, brought together researchers from academia and practitioners from industry. The symposium was held from September 27 to 30, in the center of the so-called "technology triangle" in Ankara.
Alan W. Brown from IBM, Wayne Littlefield from Borland, Prof. Dr. Ziya Aktaş from Çankaya University and Dr. Bedir Tekinerdoğan from Twente University gave invited talks. Out of 54 papers submitted, 37 were accepted for presentation and publication in the proceedings. In addition, panels on "legal issues in informatics", and "policies in informatics", were held.
A workshop on "Aspect-Oriented Software Development", and an exhibition of software companies also accompanied the event.
For those who were not in attendance, an online broadcast of the academic sessions was available through the symposium web site.
