The Best Joke Ever: See You Next Year
It is the time for the old cliché to raise its head, the one that says how you start a new year determines how the year to follow will go. When I consider the meaningless action of counting down at midnight, it seems that the country suddenly seems full of arithmeticians! Although I find all these Christmas spirit activities and beliefs to be nonsense, I more or less am enjoying the "red-mania" and grinning statues of Santa I see everywhere. I must say that hope this pointless happiness lasts throughout 2009. With all of that said, I will end by quoting one of my professors who says, "See you next year”

From Yiğit Turhan;
Who Will You Be Next Year?
Can we really reset our lives almost every 365 days? Do we always have to look back, eat ourselves up with worry, cry about our mistakes, smile at our memories, then make resolutions and dream about the new year, just to repeat it all again after some three hundred and how many ever days? I guess the answer is yes. If we can't dream about the possibilities of the things we are capable of doing in this "fresh" and "new" and "pure" year, then what fun is there to close the pages of the last one?

Next year, I'll eat less, build a swimmer's body, smile more, talk loud, act serious, lose myself on the dancefloor, learn a new language, meet new people, see new places, talk on the phone for hours with old friends, run, accomplish, succeed, think positive, create and detox! But in the end, I'll still be me.

And you? What will you do?

May 2009 be even better than 2008! Masallah!

From Alev Değim;
The Promise of a Happy New Year, From You.
The New Year is coming and, as usual, it is time to look back at the year that has passed. The personal feelings like regret, joy and fear will be left behind. Each year people make promises to themselves: "I will lose weight, I will give up smoking, I will be a better person." But, to be honest, it seems that no one keeps their promises to themselves. When we make promises to others, we feel obliged to keep them or our social image will be in danger. But what I learned in this life is that no one likes to keep promises either to themselves. So why do we make promises in the first place?

This coming year I will not make false promises. I personally can never promise that wars will end, people will not starve or that you will have a great year. But what I can promise you is this: the world will pretty much be the same, but it is you who can make a difference for yourself. If you wish something could be better in your life, just go ahead and change it! If it matters to you, it will make you happy if you can achieve it. If you make a promise to yourself, I wish you the courage to act and change what you want to change.

Happy New Year everyone…
