Bilkent-ELIT-Çeviri Gurubu

elitBilkent-ELIT-Çeviri Gurubu, a group of English Language and Literature sophomore students under the direction of Dr. Mine Özyurt-Kılıç, has launched a series of translation workshops. They meet on a regular basis both to translate and to discuss short stories, poems and short essays by contemporary British women writers who focus on motherhood, the mother-daughter bond, the representation of mothers and the search on part of female writers for a literary tradition. One of the aims of the group is to introduce Turkish readers to the works of contemporary British women writers whose stories have not yet been translated into Turkish. These budding translators already have a list of publications:

  • Nicola Barker: “Inside Information" with Bilkent-ELIT-Çeviri Grubu. Koridor. Issue 9. Winter 2009. Ankara, Winter 2009.
  • Fay Weldon: “Au Pair" with Bilkent-ELIT-Çeviri Grubu. Kül Öykü Gazetesi. Issue 22. Ankara, February 2009.
  • Maggie Gee: “The Blue" with Bilkent-ELIT-Çeviri Grubu. Kül Öykü Gazetesi. Issue 21. Ankara, January 2009.
  • Janet Frame: “Dossy" and  "My Last Story" with Bilkent-ELIT-Çeviri Grubu. Kül Öykü Gazetesi. Issue 20. Ankara, December 2008.

The group is planning to expand by incorporating some new ELIT students interested in literary translation.
