The Library was silent and a little sad during the summer without our beloved users. But during that time we didn't stop working in order to provide better services and opportunities for you, including, for example, our recent renovation of the Current Periodicals Room. Also, our new website is now up-and-running. The design and content of the site has been renewed and we hope it is now much more user friendly. Please share your opinions and suggestions with us. By the way, we must thank our student assistant, Kadir Okan Cerrah, and Batur Orkun from BCC, as well as the Student Union Photography Club for their valuable help. Finally, we thank the Library staff, Zeynep Aykut and Güneş Karaağaç, for their hard work.
We are happy to announce that we have two new orientation and training rooms. Located on the entrance floor of A-Block, they have been designed primarily for orientation and training programs relating the Library and its resources. These programs will be given by the faculty librarians, and are intended to instruct users on how to get the most out of the library collections, how to use the online catalog, and how to search the databases and other library services. In addition to regularly scheduled general orientations, special orientations can sometimes be arranged for specific classes or groups. These sessions may be subject-specific depending on the interest of the group. Bilkent University Student Union societies and clubs can also arrange to use the rooms for their meetings and official activities with the prior approval of the Library's administration.
As you may remember, at the end of the last semester, the Library prepared a survey. Thank you all for taking the time to answer the questions. We have been evaluating these since summer, and will share the results with you in this column soon.
Finally, we are pleased to announce that our Lunchtime Lecture series will continue this semester. First, on October 8, Prof. Norman Stone will deliver a lecture entitled "Einstein to Bartok: Academic Refuge in Republican Turkey." Another will be on November 5 when Dr. Emre Özgen, Chair of the Department of Psychology, will be with us. And for the last lecture of this semester, on December 3, Mr. C. Uğur Ayfer, Associate Director of the Bilkent Computer Center, will be our guest. Please check Bilkent News later for the times of the lectures.
Bilkent University Library wishes the whole Bilkent community a pleasant and productive semester!
