Awareness Exhibition and Campaign Focuses on Tearing Down Barriers

engelli

Bilkent University's Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture recently hosted an exhibition called Engelsiz Sergi, “Exhibition without Borders,” aimed at raising awareness about issues faced by those with physical challenges. These include alienation, as well as difficulty in accessing information and transportation. The desire of the organizers was to foster an atmosphere of acceptance, understanding and responsibility through an effective medium: ART. The exhibition may be colorful and fun, but underneath there is a serious message. Opening eyes and minds is important in changing stigmas and attitudes and bringing down barriers. It may be a slow, step-by-step process, but each step towards creating an equal society for all is valuable.

Show your support and gain a better understanding of what 8.5 million people in Turkey experience through Engelleri Kaldır. Join the campaign's Facebook group or visit their website at http://engellerikaldir.com.

Bilkent Üniversitesi Engelli Öğrenciler Birimi, Toplumsal Duyarlılık Projeleri, Engelsiz ODTÜ Topluluğu, ODTÜ Güzel Sanatlar Topluluğu and ODTÜ Gülmece Topluluğu are appreciated for their efforts towards the exhibition and campaign.
