From the Gallery of My Mind

alev dešimGaming and Beyond

Last week was the busiest week of my whole life! I had to work day and night to finish everything! Thank goodness its over. I feel as if my brain has been disembodied and put in a jar on display. But now I can dream of what to do while I'm on holiday! That is the best part of all.

I love to play video games so I am planning to buy myself some brand new ones. I used to play "Might and Magic" when I was in high school. This series was so thrilling that I couldn't let it go for a long time. Just the other day I saw a whole new series of the game! They remade the series, I guess. I also like "Tomb Raider," which is like a classic console game. The worst part of the game is that I got stuck in some place and can't go forward from there, and I don't know why. Its always like this. For example, I remember playing "Angel of Darkness." I came so close to solving the whole puzzle but I got stuck in a stupid sewer and couldn't get out! So I left that game. "Tomb Raider" always ends in frustration for me. Oh well. But this is not my genre. I like RPG and FRP better that "Tomb Raider" or anything.

I remember that there were a lot of discussions about these two types of gaming. Some people claimed that they are very dangerous because the players begin to lose their notion of reality and their identities and act in real life as if they are a character in the game. Of course that might be a side effect and it can happen to anyone who plays the game for over five hours a day, everyday. Its possible to lose ones sense of reality because the world presented in the game is pretty realistic and exciting. It tempts the player to be there. But I don't agree with the part of losing the sense of identity because a player creates a character for themselves, trying to create an "Ideal" person in the game. It's like an Ego-Ideal so the player's personal identity isn't lost, they just become who they want to be in their imagination.

Thats it for now, take care...
