 Industrial Engineering (IE) faculty members and department graduates met with students on Monday, November 3, 2008 to share their experiences and discuss the importance of having a Masters or Ph.D. Degree in professional life. Prof. M. Selim Aktürk presented "Do We Have to Have a Masters Degree?" addressing the advantages in both a national and international context. Dr. Cemal Akyel, Vice President of Microsoft Turkey, presented "Why Having a Masters Degree is Important in Professional Life." He pointed out that "having a Masters Degree is an investment for your life, and it helps you to get specialized in a specific subject." Prof. Nesim K. Erkip presented "What is Academic Life and What Does an Academic Do?" stating that, "in order to become a good academic you have to communicate, read a lot, and love to interact with students." Finally, former IE student Mustafa Tanrıkulu shared his post-graduate experiences with attendees. During the panel, headed by Prof. Ülkü Gürler, students were given the opportunity to talk with alumni and presenters.
