They wear red and wander around campus. They go mostly unnoticed, but what they do affects who ultimately becomes a student at Bilkent. Perhaps even you chose Bilkent partly because of their guidance.
The Information Office for Prospective Students (BTO) is one of the Administrative Units in the University whose mission is to familiarize prospective students and their families to Bilkent University. They conduct Introductory Campus Tours throughout the school year, hold Educational Fairs in various cities and run the Summer Introductory Period. The office is has 54 voluntary guide students who guide visitors around campus. These student guides are selected by interview and enter a special training period that lasts about a semester.
The Summer Introductory Period is one of the most important activities of BTO. Prospective students who are trying to make their choice of university after the Student Placement Exam (ÖSS) visit Bilkent to get a better idea of what life is like here. BTO's student guides help prospectives make their choices by giving information about academic departments and opportunities here at Bilkent. And even if they do not ultimately choose Bilkent, they are made sure to be comfortable and leave smiling.
This year Summer Introductory Period was held from July 13 to July 31. During this time 1967 candidates came to campus tours. Thousands of students and their families attended the Career Information Days held by faculty members. Turn-out was much higher this year.
Although the student guides work hard, Summer Introductory Period is their most exciting time. Busy morning till night, they stay in campus dormitories, which helps foster camaraderie. They do anything from go-carting to funfairs, have çiğ köfte and "fasıl" nights, and nineties parties and barbeques in front of the 76th dorm.
If you also want to be a part of this team check your e-mails for an announcement for application which will be in the September.
