Undergraduate and graduate students who plan to drive on campus are requested to apply for their vehicle sticker for the new academic year. Applications for vehicle stickers can be made using STARS via the Traffic Operations link. Vehicles with no valid sticker for the new academic year will not be permitted on campus as of 1 October, 2009.
Those applying for a Bilkent vehicle sticker for the first time are required to attend an orientation program given by the Traffic Committee and pass a written test comprising general traffic rules and regulations practiced on campus. The first orientation program coming up will be held on Wednesday, September 16, at 5:40 p.m. Other sessions will follow and will be announced on the website www.trafik.bilkent.edu.tr. Renewal applicants do not need to register for orientation.
These compulsory orientation programs were first introduced during the 2005 - 2006 academic year, and drivers whose sticker had been suspended for reaching the limit of violation points within the academic year were required to attend one of these programs after the termination of their suspension period. Last year, participation in the Traffic Orientation Program was compulsory for all graduate and undergraduate students applying for a vehicle sticker for the first time.
During the 10 orientation sessions held throughout the academic year, 1348 drivers were briefed on the importance Bilkent University places on road safety, and the reasons for creating awareness among young people.
The statistics below show that these orientation programs have had a striking effect on safe driving on campus, leading to the decision of the Traffic Committee to continue enforcing participation in these programs in the coming years.
In the table below, figures for the academic year 2008 - 2009 are compared to the previous year, where participation was only required for those whose sticker had been suspended due to reaching the limit of 12 violation points.
We wish all a successful new academic year and safety on the roads.
