Opinions

nazlý çelebiSome of my friends are experiencing the ultimate depression since they will be graduating at the end of the semester. Unsurprisingly the eternal question arises: “What happens after school?” Sometimes we feel lost and alone. We have questions in our heads waiting for answers that don't come. And at times we feel like nobody understands what we are going through. The things we don't share with our close friends go round in our minds constantly. Since everyone has different perspectives and different characteristics we react differently to these situations. Some of us choose to listen to depressing music and feel worse; some of us share it with friends and get it out of our system; some of us ignore and postpone it; and some of us just write about it.

When we are going through tough times like these, we feel like we don't know what we want our life to be, and mostly we just whine about it. Instead of feeling depressed or just simply feeling bad, there is another option on our list. It may sound absurd but once you try and start to believe in the power of positive energy, it immediately starts its own life in your system. You start to experience some amazing results.

With some research and reading I learned a lot about this new attitude that I've been developing for a few days. At first I did not believe the power of it ,but then I felt the need of a change in my life. I thought, “It would not hurt to try, it is better than whining.” After trying it for some time it entirely changed my way of thinking. I observed that the main problem was my point of view on certain things. A change in how I thought of things changed the path of the most important things in my life. For example, I started to write in a journal everything that I experienced just by thinking positively.

It may sound like playing Pollyanna, but once you start to believe and become friends with the universe, you will see the results. Eleanor Roosevelt encouraged people to believe in the power of positive energy with these words: “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” Even if it did not inspire others, it inspired me…

I am not suggesting that you become Buddha or some other holy figure. My point is that when you feel down you don't have to hate the world. You can try to see that there is a whole philosophy behind “positive energy” and add that as an option to your to-do list Positive thinking gives an alternative way of survival and encourages you to somehow find it.

We all have depressing moments; we all have obsessive behaviors and stress. After all, we are not androids. It's impossible to avoid stress, but adopting positive energy as a philosophy can make a difference. And it's easy to do. When you feel down, I suggest some nice slow music to start with. Along with the music, you'd better listen to yourself, what you want from life, your dreams... My other suggestion is to write these down and decide what to do in order to achieve these goals. This will help you to be clear on your priorities, your game plan and whatever you want to do. I want to conclude this inspiring column with an inspired quote: “Don't worry, be happy!” Life is too short, get up and open yourself to it with a big smile on your face.
