Although the outcome of the Climate Change Conference (COP15) is far below expectations, Bilkent University has made its contribution to fighting climate change. Bilkent sent a team of students to a collaborative project working parallel to the COP15 conference on December 13-14.
The team from Bilkent University (taking GE401-Innovative Product Design and Development I) attended the collaborative project at Copenhagen University. The project was organized by Yale University and University of Copenhagen, along with 13 teams from all over the world from different universities that also participated in the project.
The students from Bilkent University were members of Team Six of GE401, named COMPANY COMPASS. The team members were Pınar Tekir, Özge Topuz, Cem Çetin, Ömer Alper Özkan and Harun Aygıt. Three of the students - Özge Topuz, Ömer Alper Özkan and Harun Aygıt - represented the team at the project forum at Copenhagen under the supervision of the course coordinator, Dr. Tarık Reyhan.
The theme of the Bilkent project was "Climate Change Study at Bilkent University" focusing on "Preparation of a Long-Term Master Plan for Combating Climate Change at Bilkent University."
Students presented a poster of their master plan for turning Bilkent into a green university. They discussed their project during presentations with the help of supervisors. All teams attending the conference will send monthly reports of the developments in their projects to a database that will be organized by Yale University. After a year of reporting, the results will hopefully be presented at next year's conference-COP16.
