A Tranquil Way of Greeting the New Year: Literature Students' Performance

performance

Students from the Departments of English Language and Literature and the Department of American Culture and Literature staged Arms and the Man as two performances. The play, written by nineteenth century British playwright Bernard Shaw, attracted a sizeable audience that enjoyed the exciting and amusing performance on Friday December 25th and Saturday December 26th.

The actors were honored by the attendance of the Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Letters, Prof. Talat Halman, at the premier. After hours of rehearsal, it was fulfilling to meet the audience at the end of the semester.

The amateur group wishes to continue its theatre activities, which started with the performance of Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest. The two selected plays marked two special occasions; the former was part of activities at Bilkent May Fest, in 2008-2009 spring, and the latter was a way of greeting the new year with enthusiasm and joy in late December 2009.

The literature students of both the English Language and Literature and the American  Culture and Literature departments tried their hands at interpreting the plays not only verbally but also on stage with their natural talent in giving life to the characters. The audience was captivated by the body language and use of language in the play. Thanks to the audience for their heartfelt contribution and all those who supported the group during the rehearsals. They look forward to meeting  theatre-lovers with a new project.
