Prof. Üstün Dökmen, well-known psychologist and guidance specialist, participated in a conference as part of the Career Center's Career Days programming. Prof. Dökmen spoke about developing the communication skills of individuals, eliminating prejudices and misunderstandings and understanding the perspectives of others.
The conference began with Prof. Dökmen's brief introduction to some difficulties that we face in our daily lives. He also touched on the issue of prejudice, giving examples of how we assume things about others. Additionally, he gave some advice on how not to prejudge anyone or anything.
Prof. Dökmen explained the importance of understanding others and explained the reasons of this, giving examples of some outcomes that came from misunderstandings. In addition, he touched on mistakes in decision making and the effects of this on family, social and business relationships. Finally, he advised participants to live life to the fullest.
Prof. Dökmen not only brightened the students with his intelligence and experience, but also made them laugh with his perceptive jokes. During the whole conference, participants listened carefully despite spending more than two hours sitting still.
At the end of the conference, Prof. Dökmen played classical music from the album “Köprüler,” which includes Turkish songs transposed into classical music.
