Turkish Literature Center Publishes Necatigil Book

Behçet NecatigilBilkent's Center for Turkish Literature celebrated the work of the prominent Turkish poet Behçet Necatigil (1916-1979) to honor the  the 25th anniversary of his death. The symposium “Asfalt ovalarda yürüyen abdal: Behçet Necatigil” (The minstrel walking on asphalt plains: Behçet Necatigil) featured 11 papers and two reminiscences.

Bilkent's Turkish literature center is now proud to publish the papers and
discussions presented at the symposium in the form of a  book issued by one of Turkey's leading publishing houses, Türkiye İş Bankası Kültür Yayınları.

The volume contains the texts of formal papers delivered by Sabit Kemal Bayıldıran, Mehmet Kalpaklı, Orhan Tekelioğlu, Rahim Tarım, Laurent Mignon, Emre Zeytinoğlu, Şehnaz Şişmanoğlu Şimşek, Alphan Akgül, Hilmi Yavuz, Can Bahadır Yüce, Mahmut Temizyürek. The testimonials of Mustafa Şerif Onaran, friend of Necatigil and Prof. Hikmet Sami Türk, the prominent statesman, will also be included

The Necatigil book was edited by Gökhan Tunç, who holds an MA from Bilkent's Department of Turkish Literature, currently a Ph.D. candidate at Ankara University. The volume is being sold for 10 TL.

Since its establishment, Bilkent's Center for Turkish Literature has published seven books, including Geçmisten Geleceğe Yaşar Kemal; Melih Cevdet Anday: Bütün Yüzyılları Yaşadım; Bir İnsanı Sevmek: Sait Faik; O Ben Ki: Edip Cansever; Leylâ Erbil'de Etik ve Estetik; Hayal Şiir: Yahya Kemal Beyatli Şiiri Üzerine Makaleler; Çağının Sıradışı Yazarı Evliya Çelebi.
