From the Library

libraryBilkent University Library would like to welcome all new members of the Bilkent community and returning students and faculty!

This semester the Library will continue to introduce some new and exciting resources and activities.

We would like to inform you about the Overdrive Digital Library which has been accessible by the members of Bilkent University since the end of last semester. We believe that it will be especially interesting and useful for the new students in the preparatory school.

Overdrive provides 366 titles which cover subjects ranging from classical and popular fiction, to textbooks, foreign language study aids and mathematics. These books can be downloaded to personal computers and various portable devices, such as MP3 players, for listening or reading via the OverDrive interface on the library website or directly from: http://overdrive.library.bilkent.edu.tr

In addition, our Fall 2009 Library Lunchtime Lectures will kick off with a talk on 14 October by Prof. Metin Heper, dean of FEASS and chair of POLS, about the Kurdish Initiative. Our other speakers this semester include vice-provost Prof. Orhan Aytür and Dr Dilek Mutlu-Kaya of the Graphic Design department. We look forward to seeing you all at these talks.

Also this semester, we are hoping to start a series of "teaching support workshops" in which we will present some of the library's databases and other resources and outline their value for Bilkent instructors and researchers. We will announce the subjects and times of these workshops nearer to the time. Lastly we should remind you that there is now a café at the entrance of the Main Library which was opened by Coffee Break at the end of last semester. So, we hope your visits to the Library will be more pleasant; but please don't forget that, except for water, no food and drink purchased at the cafe can be taken into another part of the Library building. We wish you a nice and successful semester.
