Join Bilkent University's Ultimate Frisbee Team!

frisbeeUnless you're new to Bilkent, you must have at least once seen those people running madly behind a frisbee for hours and wondered why they were doing so. They have been, and will keep playing - the Bilkent Goats are flourishing this semester with their fresh and determined newcomers! Still, there is always more room for new people to join.

It would perhaps be useful to mention a little about Ultimate Frisbee in general. The rules of this game are somehow similar to those of American Football - each team tries to get one of their teammates to catch the disc in the endzone (the touchdown zone of American Football) of the opposing team.

However, unlike American Football, it is not allowed to run with the disc but instead to pass to other teammates, which encourages teamwork and coordination instead of sole individual pleasure.

Physical strength, fitness and technical skills (usually related to throwing the disc) are doubtlessly advantageous, but the real fundamentals and prerequisites of Ultimate are sportsmanlike behavior, collaborative play and friendship. Real Ultimate players are more friends than they are teammates, and this is beneficial in many terms, from the quality of play in the field to the daily life of the individuals in the team.

One other thing to be said about Ultimate Frisbee is that it embraces and encourages differences. Males and females of vast age differences play together and try to create good harmony or flow - this makes Ultimate a much more progressive, compatible and playable sport compared to others.

Don't hesitate to be embraced by this friendly crowd, as you shall have no regrets once you are in it. Please contact Hüseyin Camalan (camalan@ug.bilkent.edu.tr) or Seray Öztürk (serayo@gmail.com) if you are looking to get further information or to join our practices.
