From the Library

libraryThe Bilkent University Library is now on Facebook! According to a short survey made recently at the Library, most of our readers use social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter and Google Buzz and of these, Facebook is by far the most popular. In order to improve communication with our users, we decided to set up a Facebook 'page' which will be published this week on 23 March 2010.

From this page, you will be able to get some services such as reference help, request materials, offer your suggestions / complaints, and keep up-to-date with events in the Library. We will use these services to supplement the Library's main website in delivering the latest information to you. We would be very happy if you decide to become a 'fan' of our new Facebook page.

The Library Lunchtime Lecture by Prof. Halil İnalcık scheduled for 24 February has been postponed until May. The first lecture for this semester,  'Contemporary African American Novel: Critical Conversations about the City', will be delivered this week on Wednesday, March 24, by Associate Professor Lale Demirtürk of the Department of American Culture and Literature.

In her talk, Dr. Demirtürk will examine the contemporary African American urban novel and will offer cultural, social and political readings of the modern city as a site of diverse black identities.

The lecture will be in English and will take place at 12:40 p.m.-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the Library Art Gallery. As usual, lunchtime refreshments will be supplied. We look forward to seeing you all at the talk!
