From the Library

Bilkent University Library is happy to announce that Prof. Halil İnalcık (HIST) will deliver a talk entitled “Which Is True: Turkey is not part of Europe, Turkey is part of Europe?” as part of the Library Lunchtime Lecture series on Wednesday, May 12, 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Library Art Gallery. In this lecture Prof. İnalcık will consider the on-going debate about Turkey's candidacy for the European Union from the perspective of an historian. He will outline the main political, cultural and economic ties between Turkey and Europe in the past, and will counter the various objections to Turkish membership of the EU by arguing that both logically and historically Turkey should be considered as part of Europe. (Please note that this lecture was originally scheduled for 24 February, but was postponed).

Also, we are excited to inform all instructors that the plagiarism detection program Turnitin is now integrated with Moodle. All instructors who use Moodle for their courses can now also use key features of Turnitin without having to set up a separate account. We are grateful to members of the BITS team for helping us to arrange this integration. Use of Turnitin at academic institutions has been shown to reduce plagiarism progressively, and we urge all Bilkent instructors to make use of this important program.
