DOST Welcomes New Members

dostAlready bogged down with schoolwork? Haven't been out of Ankara for ages?
Is your only picturesque scenery the bland view of your desktop?

It's time to break the monotony. Join Bilkent's Outdoor Sports Society DOST!

For bayram this month DOST climbed Aladağlar mountain. The group of seven started their very first journey of the semester on Saturday, September 19 to Niğde.

Here's a look at their itinerary:

Day 1: Arrival at Mount Aladağlar's outskirts. Climb to first camp Sokullu Pınarı at 2200m.

Day 2: A six-hour climb to Çelikbuyduran at 3400m through thick fog to make camp near a water source.

dost2Day 3: Attempt for Emler Peak at 3723m but fog and snow too interfering. Return to base camp at 2200m. Stayed one more night at base camp.

Day 4: Packed up camp on the morning of Tuesday, September 22. Descended the mountain and return to Ankara.

In the past DOST members have climbed Bolkarlar, Aladağlar and others. DOST also organizes trekking, rock climbing, orienteering, and mountain biking.

The club was established in 1989 by a group of students that included Nasuh Mahruki (MAN '92) and Tunç Fındık (ELIT '93), the only Turkish mountaineers to have reached the summit of K2 and Mt. Everest.

The Outdoor Sports Society welcomes its new members.
