On April 3rd, his 84th birthday, Professor İhsan Doğramacı was flying back to Ankara from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, where he met the President of the Republic and local pediatricians to plan the next congress of the Union of Turkish Speaking National Pediatric Societies (for those of our readers who may not know it, Prof. Doğramacı is a pediatrician as well as a higher educationalist).
In addition to his work at Bilkent, Prof. Doğramacı is involved in many other activities. Since the beginning of 1999 he has attended the UNICEF Executive Board in New York, given two lectures at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, Boston, travelled to India upon the invitation of the President of India, lectured at the All India Academy of Medical Sciences and received an honorary doctorate from a university in India, lectured in a workshop in Jaipur organized by the International Pediatric Association, WHO and UNICEF.
Last month, he also attended World Health Organization (WHO) meetings in Geneva (WHO annually gives an "İhsan Doğramacı" award to an individual who has made distinguished contributions to family health), and made several visits to the Paris headquarters of the International Pediatric Association, of which he is Honorary President.
We wish Hoca Bey many happy returns of April 3rd.
