Three senior students in the Department of Industrial Engineering won honors at the International Symposium of Industrial Engineering Students '99, held at Istanbul Technical University between March 10 and 13. The symposium featured a project competition among Industrial Engineering students from several universities.
Burak Ali Aksu won first place with his project, "U-Type Assembly Line Balancing by Simulated Annealing," which developed a model for designing a specialized assembly system.
His project was chosen from a total of 40 projects among 19 universities. It was completed as part of the IE 490 course supervised by Dr. İhsan Sabuncuoğlu and Dr. Erdal Erel.
C. Alper Geloğulları and Ömer Güneş won honorable mention with their project, "A Heuristic Approach to an Inventory Management Problem in a Car Rental Company." Their project was completed as part of the course IE 477, Production Systems-Design, taught by Dr. Ömer Benli.
