BilWrite at Your Service
BilWrite is a reading and writing assistance center available for use by all members of the Bilkent University community. It aims to help students improve their English skills, a key factor for success at Bilkent. Assistance is provided for, among other things, classroom note-taking, basic computer skills, and test-taking strategies. Conversation nights and special interest workshops are also scheduled throughout the semester and additional tutoring options are available upon request.

Many Bilkenters are currently using the center for help. Hakan Akbulut, Oğuz Tanyıldızı, and Mehmet Levend Özçelik (AMER-II) first encountered BilWrite when their English instructor required them to have their papers proofread by staff there. At first Hakan thought, "Why am I here?" but with time he was pleased to see an improvement in his grades. He now says he enjoys going to BilWrite because of the friendly and free support they provide for his study needs. Oğuz thinks that studying at BilWrite is different from studying in class. First of all, the atmosphere is much more relaxed at BilWrite because grades are not an issue there. Secondly, a different perspective than that of the instructor is obtained, and another source of input and feedback cannot help but improve one's work.

Mehmet's visits to BilWrite helped him improve his organizational skills when writing papers. He also added that if anybody needs help from BilWrite, they should arrange an appointment at least three days in advance to ensure availability, as more and more people are using BilWrite services.
